Department of Chemistry is one of the most active disciplines under the faculty of Science and offers relevant courses to produce highly skilled graduates with theoretical and well equipped practical knowledge.  It is becoming gradually popular among the students all over the country dreaming for the higher study in the Dhaka city. There are twenty eight qualified and proactive faculty members in the department contributing in teaching and research. Among these faculty members fifteen of them are holding Ph.D. degree from the reputed universities of different parts of the globe such as UK, Germany, China, Japan and South Korea and four of them  are pursuing their Ph.D. in the different universities of the world.

Since the beginning of Jagannath University in 2005, the students of four batches have already got their B.Sc. (Hons) and M.Sc. and the students of two batches have completed their B.Sc. (Hons) degree in chemistry. As a new-born university the Department of Chemistry is going nicely in terms of academic and research activities despite of the limitations regarding the classroom and laboratory facilities. However, an Advance Instrument Centre decorated with some analytical key instruments e.g., UV-Visible Spectrophotometer, Fourier Transform Infra Red Spectrophotometer, Rotary Evaporator, Magnetic Susceptibility Balance etc.) has recently been established at our department by implementing the Window-1 sub-project for the institutional development under the HEQEP project funded by the World Bank. This will serve the basic needs of our general and research students.
